Badminton

A highly engaging display of agility, speed and precision timing, Badminton is an exciting spectator sport with a strong following in Asia and parts of Europe. The Mixed Team round robin event followed by finals knock out will see men and women compete in singles, doubles and mixed doubles to claim victory at the Arafura Games in 2019.

Dates and Times of Competition

Wednesday 1 May – Friday 3 May  |  Prelims & Semis
Session 1: 0800 – 1300
Session 2: 1400 – 1900

Saturday 4 May  |  Playoffs & Finals
Session 1: 0800 – 1200
Session 2: 1300 – 1700

*Times are subject to change based on entries and final schedule.

Eligibility

Athletes must be at least 16 years old on the first day of competition.

Matches will be conducted under the BWF Laws of Badminton and where modified by Games organisers.
State, provincial or regional participants must be current members of their local, BWF affiliated Badminton association.
Players will be asked to enter their BWF, state, province or national ID number, where applicable.
Players will be asked to provide their BWF rankings, where applicable
Only 1 team per country may enter the competition.

Competition Format

Competition will be a mixed team round robin event. Match format will be:

  • MS1
  • MS2
  • WS1
  • WS2
  • MD1
  • WD1
  • XD1
  • XD2

It’s expected teams will be of a state, provincial or regional representative level.

Mixed Teams
2 – 4 men & 2 – 4 women per team
Minimum team size: 4 (2 men & 2 women)
Maximum team size: 8 (4 men & 4 women)
