The Arafura Games 2019 has an adorable mascot – a young rock wallaby called Milula.
Milula, who lives around Darwin’s East Point Reserve, loves sport and was recently spotted at the Tiwi Islands Grand Final match where he had a great time catching up with spectators and footy players.
Ever since his debut at Wulagi Primary School on 28 February, Milula (pronounced Miloo-la) has been seen out and about talking to the community and getting everyone excited about the Games.
He’s been caught on camera at Casuarina Square Shopping Centre, International Women’s Day parade, the NT Swimming Championships at Parap Pool, Smith Street Mall, local schools and Darwin Airport.
He will be meeting up soon with his dad Rocky – the mascot for the Arafura Games 2011 – who has been hanging out at Territory Wildlife Park since he retired eight years ago.
Designed by local artist James Carter, Milula has a coat and tail full of colourful markings that represent his strong connection to the Larrakia people and country.
